Response from Gnome, a bit conflicting as Gnome thinks they are still in process of moving, GG makes it sound above ^ like there moved and doing maintence.
Hi Frank.
I understand that the master server is currently being moved from its old InstantAction location to the new GarageGames' location. I've been told that it should be available again within the next week or so.
Hey there, guys. I thought at the time that the server maintenance we were undergoing was affecting the master server. We moved all of our DNS entries for GarageGames and the Torque product line to a new datacenter. All of the IP for the game properties is still under IAC's control and I am looking into who to contact on their end to find out the status of the servers.
Sorry for the confusion, but as you can see, I was confused about the server move, what products we were still managing, etc.
I will look into whether we should pull the online games from the store (though it is a lengthy process since it is not only our store, but other game portals that are selling ThinkTanks, Orbz, MarbleBlast Ultra (XBLA), etc.).
We sure hope taking the game out of the store never happens. Please understand we are a die hard group of players that have been playing this game ( the best online shooter game ever made) since it was released 7 or so years ago. We do notice a migration of some IA TT players beside the new players that come and I'm sure there are many more that will follow. I hope that GG sees the potential for this game especially if they came out with an upgrade TT2. Much of the work is already done with IA stuff but I believe an upgrade would generate a quick bunch of cash. I know all the players here would buy the game again in a heartbeat.
One thing I believe they forgot before releasing TT is a progress bar showing the downloading of content when on a modded server, rather than a blank screen. One of our players scripted a "Never Ending Download Bar" script that solved that problem and is available here. It was my understanding from GG that hosting this master server used very little resources. we wait with our fingers crossed.
Any updates or new games in the ThinkTank line would have to come from IAC since we do not have any IP rights to it any longer. We do not have any of the code, assets, etc from it at all. That is also the reason that we are not in control of the master server any more as well. I'd love to see a new TT as well. It's a pretty awesome game!
