Is anyone using a linux version of TT and if so, how did you get it to run?
My system is running SimplyMepis (KDE/Debian) and I would love to run it on my system rather than the other one I've been using.
Any help would be appreciated.
(I have downloaded the linux version from the site but would rather not waste time fiddling around with it if someone can give some clear easy direction.)
Thanks,
Max

1. Place TT download in home folder 2. open terminal window 3. type cd(spc)/home(spc)/belikin <------------Inplace of the belikin you need your informaion. 4. type sh(spc) DRAG TT ICON TO SERVER WINDOW 5. enter 6. change installation path to /home/belikin/thinktanks 7. Symbolic links = NO
The following link was given to me but it no longer works so I used EnvyNG to install my Nvidia driver. EnvyNG will install nvidia drivers and one other brand but i cannot remember what it is.
Your folder name where belikin is below. There are other things I can help you with launching TT I wiill post later.
Running a server Roos Instructions (Thanks roo)
Once you get that installed then it will be time to throw up a server!
First thing to do. Go into the /home/belikin/ThinkTanks/dedicated folder and pick a game you want to host (actaully does't really matter because we will be changing things later, but we need the script). So just pick the lush cycle.sh and copy it. Then past it in your home/ belikin/ThinkTanks folder.
Second. Use the Text Editor (located in Applications-Accessories) to edit the cycle.sh with some info I got from dash awhile back. Makes it a lot easier to deal with. Replace all with this info.
Third. You have to find the prefs.cs Go to your home folder and click view - then click Show hidden files - Then go to the .bravetree/ThinkTanks/game/server folder. Just cut and the paste to your /home/belikin/ThinkTanks/game/server folder. Just edit the server prefrences here.
Fourth. Launch the server. Open a terminal. Type cd /home/belikin/ThinkTanks <hit enter> then type sh(spc) (and drag the .sh file from the ThinkTankls folder to the terminsl window, And away you go
You can install everything else like you do in windows, like the dash codes and such. Its just now gedit has taken the place of notepad.
These are not my instructions, they come from Rooster. I take it when he says server window he means "terminal window". After typing (type cd(spc)/home(spc)/belikin <------------Inplace of the belikin you need your information.) He wants you to type the "sh" then put a space, then drag the "Think Tanks Installer", the main tt program you downloaded over to the terminal window. It should start unpacking and begin the installation.
If you get that "Team Viewer" fired up I can show you this in a snap. :)
I've got a Mepis admin working on it. He did get it running but in the alpha version of the next gen of Mepis. Said it didn't (and won't) work in my 8.5 version so I'm assuming I'll be upgrading (simple enough but takes time) and then will need to tweak a few files which he is going to detail for me.
The process is going to be a little longer than originally anticipated. I'm going to install another HDD and double or triple boot 1 to 2 more linux distro's. Once I've got those details complete I will address the TT Linux version. Could be a couple more days to a couple more weeks depending on when I get the drive and the time.
